Abortion

Abortion is defined as the intentional killing of a preborn infant.  Right to Life of Southwest Indiana opposes abortion.  Abortion is a grave injustice toward the child’s natural unalienable right to life and clear deprivation of due process to this right to life.  Abortion for the purpose of this policy statement means the use or prescription of any instrument, medicine, drug or other substance or device to terminate a pregnancy of a woman known to be pregnant with an intention other than to increase the probability of a live birth for her preborn child.

Medical treatment should strive to save the life of both the mother and the child.  In this day of medical advances, it is rare that both the mother and child cannot be saved.  If medical treatment causes the unintended death of the child, this shall not be construed as abortion.

Right to Life of Southwest Indiana opposes abortion in cases of rape and incest.  Violence of any kind is horrible and unacceptable.  Rape and incest are especially heinous criminal acts of violence.  All perpetrators of sexual assault should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.  Our organization encourages support for organizations that help victims.  However, abortion is always the intentional killing of a preborn child regardless of how the child is conceived.  When a child is aborted that is conceived as an act of violence then that cycle of violence is repeated.  The child becomes a victim of the mother.
